Essential tips for new online baccarat games

Baccarat has one simple rule for the player: back the banker. It has the lowest house edge on the table at about 1.06% with the usual 5% commission, against 1.24% on the player and over 14% on a tie paying 8:1.

New variants change the speed, the commission or the side bets, not the cards. Check what each one does to the edge before you sit down.

Side bets: small hits, big edges

Player pair and banker pair usually pay 11:1 and carry an edge of about 10% or more. Perfect pair pays up to 25:1 with a similar or higher edge. They add excitement at a high price per bet.

Betting systems

Martingale doubles the stake after each loss, Fibonacci raises it along the sequence 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, and 1-3-2-4 raises it after wins. None of them changes the edge. They change how your results are spread: many small wins and an occasional large loss.

With Martingale starting at RWF 1,000, six losses in a row take the next stake to RWF 64,000, and the run has already cost RWF 63,000. On banker bets six losses in a row happen far more often than most players expect, and the table limit can stop the system before it recovers.

Bankroll and pace

  • Set a session budget and a loss limit before you start.
  • Use units: if your budget is RWF 50,000, a unit of RWF 1,000 to 2,000 keeps you at the table for a reasonable time.
  • Lower the stake on speed tables, since you play two or three times more hands.
  • Stop when you hit your limit, win or lose.

Bonuses and demo play

Baccarat often counts only 10% or nothing toward bonus wagering, and some casinos exclude banker bets from it. Read the contribution table first. Free demo versions of RNG baccarat let you try a new variant before you put money on it; live tables have no demo. See our baccarat page for casinos that carry the game.

They do not change the house edge. They only change the pattern of wins and losses.

Can I practise baccarat for free?

Yes, RNG baccarat usually has a demo mode. Live dealer tables are real money only.

Does baccarat count toward bonus wagering?

Often only 10% or not at all. Check the bonus terms before you play.

Responsible gaming

Play only if you are 18+ and it stays fun

These rules apply on every page of this site. A young casino has less history to judge it by, so the limits matter more.

18+ only

Adults only, everywhere

You must be 18 or older, and older in some countries. A casino can ask for ID before your first withdrawal, and new casinos often do.
